Description: strongLOV is the more light-sensitive Glu84Asp mutant of the El222 transcription factor.1.
Organism of origin: The light-responsive prokaryotic transcription factor EL222 and its binding sites come from Erythrobacter litoralis. The transactivation domain which adapts it for eukaryotes comes from the herpes virus (Herpes simplex) protein VP16.

*t-off and degradation rate were determined using ymScarletI as a reporter, instead of yEVenus as for the other systems. This was done because light for yEVenus excitation was strong enough to induce strongLOV.
